On Saturday, the lovely Pioneer Woman did a book signing about ten minutes from my house. Since I have never been to a book signing before, I wasn't so prepared. While I love to read (and usually read several books a week), it's just not very important to me to get an author's signature. Plus, I get my books from the library because I read too many to buy them. So it's not like I'm going to get a library book signed. Anyway, I got to Tradesmart at 3:45, and the presentation started at 4. Big mistake. Everyone got a number when they walked in, and I was number 600. Uh oh.
Thankfully, I didn't have to wait long before she did her presentation, and it was great. If you've read her blog or seen her show on Food Network, you'll know that she's really funny. And even more so in person. She told us about her life and how she started blogging and where that has led her. She's definitely an inspiration. In case you're going to see her on her next round of cities, I won't spill the beans. Her presentation lasted about 25 minutes, and then they started the signing.
I knew I was in trouble when they started by calling numbers 1-30. It took an hour to get through 100 numbers, and I left the store at 5:30 and went home. At 7:10, I called the store and asked if she was still there and what number they were calling. She was going to stay until every book was signed, and she was on number 230. It speaks volumes that she was staying to sign everyone's book. I left my house at 8:30, stood in line for another hour and finally met her at almost 10 pm. She had been signing books for over five hours! And she still looked great and was friendly and funny. I gave her cookies--is that weird?? I figured she must have low bood sugar after that many hours of signing and meeting people.
If you haven't heard of The Pioneer Woman, you should check her out. She is a great cook, an awesome photographer, a funny writer, and a great person. Her cooking show in on Food Network on Saturday mornings, and she has two cookbooks; a romance novel about how she met her husband; and a kid's book about her dog, Charlie. You should really support her. She obviously cares about her fans and loves what she does.
